About Me
Hi, I'm Missy.
I taught high school English for 13 years in a large public school, and taught one year in a small private school. I loved teaching.
Of course, there were some things I didn't love (I'm looking at you 170 essays on Odysseus). But, it was a fulfilling journey.
I left teaching to stay home with my newborn twins five years ago, and have since had another baby. Now I tutor high school students, homeschool my own kids, and am deeply invested in my neighborhood and church. I have found this time to be beautiful and hard, much like teaching.
But there is something deep in me that loves creating great lessons, and with the perspective I have now, I've started putting together the lessons that I wish I would have had when I was in the trenches of daily teaching. I spend many hours on all of these lessons. I rarely spent several hours on a 30 minute lesson when I was teaching, but I do now.
I do it because I love doing it and in hopes that it serves someone who is laboring in the classroom daily.
So, that's me. I'd love to hear from you. What brought you here? Where are you in your teaching journey? Email me at abetterwaytoteach@gmail.com.
